About The Borough of Malvern

Malvern is a unique, small village located in Southeast Pennsylvania, approx. 25 miles west of the city of Philadelphia on the south ridge of the Great Valley running to the West. The Borough is 1.3 square miles and has a population of approximately 3,200. Malvern has experienced much growth over the past few years and continues to see tremendous revitalization in both the residential and commercial districts. It's location provides convenient travel to the many companies with offices located in the expansive Great Valley Industrial Park including the home office of The Vanguard Group. The Great Valley campus of Penn State University adds to the vitality of the area. The village enjoys direct access to the City of Philadelphia via commuter train within easy walking distance of most residences. Malvern dates back to the Victorian era and continues to reflect this in the Victorian facades found in the business district, the Victorian street lamps and the brick pavers.

On September 21, 1777, the Revolutionary War Battle of Paoli was fought at Malvern. The Battle of Paoli was a severe humiliation for the Pennsylvania Continental troops where the encamped Maj. Gen. Anthony Wayne's Division of Pennsylvania Continentals was defeated and scattered by an attack by British Maj. Gen. Grey's Light Battalion and Light Infantry troops. The attack was well executed and highly successful, enabling Lt. Gen. William Howe to take Philadelphia within a few days with little further resistance from the main American army under George Washington.

The site of the Paoli Battlefield Memorial Park is approx. 300 yards from the Weather Station location.
